A High School Soccer All-American, Stephanie “Pezz” Pezzullo, ran all over the field as a soccer player at Penn State University. She started every season for the 4th ranked Nittany Lions who clinched the Big Ten Championship all four years she played. At the culmination of her senior soccer season, Pezz expanded her athletic pursuits and competed in Outdoor Varsity Track at PSU. Despite not having a background in track, Pezz was able to get her 1500-meter time down to 4:29 in just one season. After a couple of seasons of playing in the Semi-Professional Women's Soccer League in Charlotte, NC, Pezz began to take running more seriously. In 2006-2007, she worked with Pete Rea of "ZAP Elite" in Blowing Rock, NC and started to make successful headway both in road and track races. Since then, she has progressively lowered her times in events ranging from the 1500m to 15K. Pezz has met the USA Track and Field 3k Steeplechase “A” qualifying standard for 4 years. She has come in the top 10 in seven USA National Championship road races including the 1 mile, 5K, 10K, 10 Mile, Half-Marathon, 20K, and 25k distances. Her debut Marathon, under Coach Mark Hadley, was in October 2012 at the Chicago marathon. Pezz ran a 2:32 placing 10th overall, and 3rd American. This accomplishment placed her as one of the 2012 Top 10 Female Marathoners of the Year. In her second attempt at the Marathon distance, and although struggling with injury, Pezz managed to place 4th American and 12th overall while running a 2:38. As of January, 2014, Pezz is once again working with Coach Pete Rea of "Zap Elite" with her eyes set on the 2016 Olympic Trials.
